Tiger Woods is no longer no. 1 – did personal problems overcome him?

tiger woods lost his positionThe new worldwide champion is the UK player Lee Westwood, this being the fourth player that reached top spots without even winning a major championship. After 26 years, the number one place in golf comes back to an European folk after over five years being in Woods’ hands.

However, the forthcoming HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, China might be the change for Tiger Woods to get his hands back on the number one place. This will be a great challenge for all golf players while along with the top four golf players Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Ernie Els will have a hard word to say as well.

Although Westwood had some great results this year (second place at British Open and at The Masters as well), Colin Montgomerie does not think it will be an easy task for him to keep this great rankings for long. Once he reached the number one spot and kept it for over five years, Woods will definitely try to come back on where he was while not being excited about claiming only second place.

Last 11 months have been very difficult to Woods while along with the injuries and sex scandals he had to faced the divorce as well, and now loosing the number one rankings. Moreover, he also lost some major sponsors like AT&T, P&G or Gillette. In fact, many voices are connecting his recent loss with the fact that he did not overcome his personal problems thus he was not capable of giving 100% on the field.

The HSBC Champions event in China will definitely be a great one with great names like Woods, Westwood, Mickelson and Kaymer trying to reach the top or even retain their actual positions. This could be  the angel or the demon for Tiger Woods as well so we are all looking forward to see the event.
